Nakatsu City History Museum

Nakatsu City History Museum ("Nakahaku") is a museum whose walls facing the stone walls of Nakatsu Castle, the oldest modern castle in Kyushu, are entirely made of glass so that visitors can view them from inside the museum.

In addition to the permanent exhibition hall displaying Nakatsu's history from ancient to early modern times, and the exhibition hall that hosts a variety of planned exhibitions (for which there is a fee), the museum also has a play studio where you can take part in a variety of hands-on learning activities, and a free zone called the Ishigaki Theater where you can watch videos about the stone walls of Nakatsu Castle and other Japanese heritage sites.

In addition to touring the museum, you can also enjoy shopping at the museum shop, which sells original goods, or take a relaxing break at the cafe, which overlooks the stone walls and castle, the greatest feature of the Nakatsu City History Museum.

There are also bicycle rentals available, making it convenient for sightseeing around the castle town, including Nakatsu Castle and Fukuzawa's former residence.
