Nakatsu City Kimura Memorial Museum of Art
The Nakatsu Kimura Memorial Museum of Art was originally a private art museum established in 1989. It was purchased and renovated by the city of Nakatsu, and reopened in October 2010 as a permanent city-run exhibition facility.
The museum exhibits works by artists from Nakatsu, owned by the city, as well as art materials closely related to Nakatsu. The main works in the collection include paintings by Japan's leading Western-style painter, Nakayama Tadahiko, as well as works by Western-style painters such as Itozono Wasaburo and Kumagai Kyuji, and a wide range of art materials, including Japanese paintings, calligraphy, prints, and crafts. The museum also regularly changes the works on display, and holds special exhibitions focusing on artists and themes.
