Father Belair of the Paris Foreign Missions Society performed the first baptism and established the Nakatsu Parish in 1887. The current church was built in 1938, and in 1982, Italian-born Father Secchi had all the windows in the church imported from Italy and replaced them with colorful stained glass.
The 48 stained glass pieces are very interesting, depicting themes related to Nakatsu city, such as "The Martyrs of Nakatsu" and "The Faith of Hosokawa Gracia."
