Rakanji Bridge is located about 500m upstream from Aonodomon Cave and is one of the three Yabakei Bridges along with Bakei Bridge upstream and Yabakei Bridge downstream. It was completed in 1920.
It is a long stone triple arch bridge with a length of 89m, and the arches are flat and gentle with large spans compared to the height. This gives it a clean and horizontal proportion for an arch bridge, but on the other hand, it is said that construction was difficult due to the difficulty in transmitting loads and the bridge collapsing midway. It has been designated as a tangible cultural property of Oita Prefecture.
When the Oita Kotsu Yabakei Line (formerly the Yabakei Railway, abolished in 1975) was still in operation, Rakanji Station on the line was located on the approach to Rakanji Temple, which is said to be the head temple of all Rakan temples in Japan.
Type: 3-arch stone bridge, Bridge length: 89.0m, Bridge width: 4.5m, Span: 26.25m, Arch: 4.6m, Mason: Iwabuchi Makichi
