July 2023Due to the effects of heavy rains, the Nenbutsubashi pedestrian walkway is currently closed. Thank you for your understanding.
This is a stone bridge built upstream of the Ma-rin Gorge. Since traffic between the two banks had been a problem for a long time, the head priest of Sohon-kyojunji Temple, Uehara Sensho, used his own money to build a wooden bridge in 1877. However, because it was a wooden bridge, it was often washed away, so in 1928 it was replaced with a stone arch bridge.
The name "Nenbutsu Bridge" is said to have been given by the head priest, Uehara Sensho, in order to spread the teachings of Nembutsu.
