Aun's Kappa Statue

It is said that long ago, a god in the form of a child appeared on the stone where Empress Jingu sat, causing rainbow clouds to rise.
It was called the "Cloud Shrine" and was highly cherished.
Later, during the Heian period, it was considered to be the spirit of Emperor Ojin, and by order of Shonagon Kiyohara Masataka,
Kumo Hachiman Shrine was built in this place.

Kappa Gaku, a prefectural cultural property with a history of over 350 years, continues to this day. During the annual festival, the sounds of the music echo through the mountains.
There are humorous kappa statues scattered throughout the temple grounds. How many can you find?

Another attraction is the lecture given by the chief priest.
His stories, which he tells about myths and history in an easy-to-understand and humorous way, are loved by many people who say, "I definitely recommend you listen to them."

Filled with legends, music, and a slightly mysterious and fun atmosphere, Kumo Hachimangu Shrine is a place that brings a smile to the faces of all who visit.
