[Event Information] The 3rd Yamakuni Film Festival 2026, a festival of indie films and local films, will be held
In March 2026, the 3rd Yamakuni Film Festival will be held in Yamakuni Town, Nakatsu City, Oita Prefecture, where you can enjoy films and the charm of the region with all your senses.
This special three-day festival focuses on "indie films x locality" and will screen outstanding works from the forefront of independent filmmaking, as well as masterpieces that will remain in film history.
This year's highlights include a screening of the sci-fi masterpiece "Metropolis" (directed by Fritz Lang), which is celebrating its 100th anniversary, accompanied by a narrator, and the American independent film masterpiece "Walden" (directed by Jonas Mekas). Also, there will be the world premiere of "Cinema: A Reality," a new feature film shot entirely on location in Tokyo and Yamakuni Town, directed by the previous year's Grand Prix winner.
In addition to the main venue, Core Yamakuni, Yamakuni Kinotanku, a micro-theater and cafe bar converted from a retro hot spring inn, will also serve as a sub-venue, where short films will be screened and talk shows will be held.
In addition to the screenings, there will be plenty of other events unique to a community-based film festival, such as a market selling second-hand clothes, used books, and antiques, live performances by local artists, a "Yamaguni Town Walking Tour" that allows you to experience the deep charm of Yamaguni, and a banquet where you can enjoy local cuisine.
