About Nakatsu City
Nakatsu City is a core city in the northern part of the prefecture, located 82 km from Oita City (the prefectural capital) and 52 km from Kitakyushu City.Major modes of transportation include the JR Nippo Main Line, the Higashi-Kyushu Expressway, National Route 10, and National Route 213, which run east-west, and National Route 212, which starts in Nakatsu City and extends south, traversing the city from north to south.
The northern part of Nakatsu City faces the Suo-Nada Sea and is a thriving fishing area. It is home to the Nakatsu Plain, the largest in the prefecture, stretching from the foot of Mount Yabakei Hachimen to the Yamakuni River basin.
Hon'yabakei, Yabakei and Yamakuni in the south are mostly mountainous areas and are scenic spots with many unusually shaped mountains.
