About Nakatsu City
Nakatsu City is the core city in the north of the prefecture, 82 km from the prefectural capital Oita City and 52 km from Kitakyushu City. The main transportation routes are the JR Nippo Main Line, the Higashi Kyushu Expressway, National Route 10, and National Route 213 running east to west, and National Route 212, which starts from Nakatsu City and stretches south across the city.
The northern part of Nakatsu City faces the Suo-Nada Sea and is a thriving fishing area. It is home to the Nakatsu Plain, the largest in the prefecture, stretching from the foot of Mount Yabakei Hachimen to the Yamakuni River basin.
Hon'yabakei, Yabakei and Yamakuni in the south are mostly mountainous areas and are scenic spots with many unusually shaped mountains.
